A Realization of "Swollen" by Bent
Kara Lund, soprano
Visuals by Emlyn Ellis Addison
“Compound C21H23NO5” is the second of five works in the New Narratives Through Transformations Of Structure series.
Lyrically and melodically, this work starts from the center and works backwards using only selected words and phrases from the original. The chorus is also sounded out in reverse.
In harmonic terms the music is a transposed inversion of the original, effectively producing a rising harmonic retrograde.
For soprano and electronics.
New Narratives Through Transformations Of Structure is a series of compositions that explore melodies as memesmusical ideas that are propagated through repetitionand how, through processes of variation and mutation, their meaning is altered.
Preserving only the core melodic and/or lyrical elements that provoke recognition, new and unexpected narratives emerge by transforming the structure and context of the original.
